The James Nautilus Miami Beach Is Coming to Collins Avenue: Hotel Jobs to Watch For

MIAMI BEACH, FL — A 1950s Morris Lapidus landmark on Collins Avenue is getting a second act, and that means a new batch of hotel jobs on Miami Beach. The James Nautilus Miami Beach, a 250-room reinvention of the old Nautilus hotel at 1825 Collins Ave, is now taking reservations for stays beginning in January 2027. No hiring numbers have been announced yet, but a full-service beachfront hotel with three new dining and nightlife concepts does not open without front desk agents, housekeepers, cooks, servers and bartenders.

The James Nautilus is the flagship of Sonesta's The James Hotels brand, with restaurants from the New York group behind Scarpetta. Pre-opening hiring has not been announced, so now is the time to get your resume ready.

🏆 What's Opening at the Old Nautilus

The original Nautilus opened in the early 1950s as one of Morris Lapidus's glamour hotels, the same architect behind the Fontainebleau up the road. Services Property Trust bought the property in June 2023, and Sonesta is relaunching it as the flagship of The James, its upscale lifestyle brand. Designer Anderson Miller is reworking the rooms and lobby to blend that Miami Modern history with a current look.

Sonesta's June announcement targeted late 2026. The hotel's official page now points to an early 2027 debut, with bookings open from January.

💼 The Jobs a 250-Room Beach Hotel Needs

Food and beverage is the big story here. LDV Hospitality, the New York operator behind Scarpetta, American Cut and Barlume, is running the dining program, which Sonesta's announcement describes as three concepts:

  • A relaxed Mediterranean-style signature restaurant with outdoor seating that runs out to the pool and the beach
  • An intimate omakase dining room
  • A late-night cocktail lounge

Add a lobby cafe, a pool deck with cabanas and 250 rooms to turn over daily, and the likely mix is clear: cooks, servers, bartenders, hosts, baristas, pool attendants, housekeepers, front desk agents, valet staff and managers. To be plain about it, neither Sonesta nor LDV has posted a headcount, a hiring event or an opening date for applications. Treat that list as what to prepare for, not a promise of openings.

💵 What to Know About Pay

Florida's minimum wage rose to $15 an hour on September 30, and it applies the same way in Miami Beach as on the mainland, because state law doesn't let cities set their own private-sector floor. Watch the posted ranges once listings go live rather than assuming the floor. Our guide to Florida's $15 minimum wage covers what changed.

📋 How to Get Ready Now

  • Update your resume for hospitality. Put guest-facing experience, POS systems, food handler or responsible vendor training and any fine-dining or high-volume work at the top.
  • Watch the official channels. Check Sonesta's careers site and the hotel page for postings, and call the hotel at 305-503-5700 only once listings appear.
  • Plan the commute. The hotel sits at Collins and 18th Street, a short walk from Lincoln Road. From the mainland, that means the MacArthur or Venetian causeway, and beach parking is not cheap.
